Welcome to RotaryJazz!
The Rotarian Jazz Fellowship brings together jazz-loving Rotarians and musicians from all over the world. Founded in Germany in 2010 as a joint venture with Rotary Clubs in the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland, this Fellowship recognizes the global impact of jazz music. After a thorough accreditation process, RotaryJazz received the seal of approval by Rotary International in June 2012. Ever since the International Rotarian Jazz Fellowship is listed in the official Rotary Fellowships Directory.
Rotary Fellowships are autonomous, international groups of Rotarians, Rotarian spouses, and Rotaractors who join together to:
- Share a common interest – like jazz.
- Further their vocational development – through jazz.
- Make new friends around the world – with jazz.
- Explore new opportunities for service – for jazz.
- Have fun and enhance a jazz-filled Rotary experience.
As jazz music has developed and spread around the world, since its early American beginnings it has drawn on many different national, regional and local musical cultures, giving rise to many distinctive styles: New Orleans jazz dating back from the early 1910s, big band swing, Kansas City jazz and Gypsy jazz from the 1930s and 1940s, bebop from the mid-1940s on down through Afro-Cuban jazz, West Coast jazz, Latin jazz in various forms, smooth jazz, jazz fusion and jazz rock, and many other ways of playing the music.
From approximately 1920 to 1955, Central Avenue was the heart of the active rhythm & blues as well as jazz community in Los Angeles. Within this context, a “few years later” in July 2013 the American headquarter of RotaryJazz set up shop in today’s entertainment capital of the world: in Rotary District 5280, Los Angeles, California, USA.
